Coloring Line Art

So you have a black and white image that you would like to color in?

This tutorial will give you some basic instructions on doing that.
From here, you can go onto more advanced ways by doing as Stained Glass images, or even making the image smaller and creating as a Pixel Painting. Each one has their own techniques, but the basic ones remain the same.

I have provided a simple image that you can use. Once you have mastered the basics, then go on to using other images of your choice.

Take a good look at the outlines, are all of them connected? If not, then it will be necessary to connect those lines, otherwise, when you go to select a section, you will get all the surrounding areas as well.
This was shown how to do in the tutorial "Cleaning Line Art"

All done, your image should now look like this.

Use the selection tool to select the flower petals, holding down shift key then new layer fill with your color. Keep the ants marching and apply Inner bevel (image 3 settings) You will use these same settings for all the sections.

This is what it looks like now

Remember always select the sections on layer 1 and fill on layer 2

Continue in this manner until the entire image is completed. Add a drop shadow if you wish at the end.
Your background will be white with this one, but you can always change that by selecting the outside part with your magic wand and filling with whatever you desire.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Feel free to experiment and come up with different effects just by changing the fill colors. If you use Glass patterns, you will have a stained glass effect.

For stained glass, select the black lines, go to Effects/3d Effects/Inner Bevel and click on the Presets/Metallic.

This will give your outlines a raised look just like real stained glass does.
